Disney Weekend October 14-17

Thursday arrival, the Orlando airport all decked out for WDW's 50th

Bill, Julie and I hit up Disney Springs in the evening to convert the park hoppers to Annual Passes for me, Sammi, and Jason

Friday, now that I have an Annual Pass, while Bill and Julie had to work, and Sammi and Jason wouldn't be in until Jason got off of work and they could drive over that night, meant a day filled with wandering the parks (3 in all) meeting up with Julie in the evening for dinner at Epcot and a ride home. Bill was kind enough to drop me off at Animal Kingdom to start the day.

My first wildlife sighting!

I spend most of the morning doing video on the gimbal so I could get more familiar with the settings, but I did manage a few photos.

I grabbed a bite from Flame Tree and got a seat along the water on the opposite side of the marina to see the new show Kite Tails from a shady spot.

They were running the Jungle Book show this time (there is also a Lion King one)

From Animal Kingdom, I hopped over to Magic Kingdom to check out all the 50th stuff

From there, I hopped on the monorail again to Epcot to meet up with Julie

this bit is some random video from inside the MK and on the monorail to Epcot, where there is endless construction visible

The whole reason for ending the day at Epcot is they've got a Beacons of Magic show that's just stunning and I so much wanted to see it in person.

We heard the music but  . . .  no lights at all on the geosphere.

After standing around on some very sore feet for half an hour, thinking, "surely they'd announce if they were having technical difficulties" we realized, nope, Disney is just going to let a few hundred people standing here keep wondering what's happening.

After quick hugs from Sammi and Jason and a pet for Charlie, I had to hit the shower and then turned into a zombie.

The next morning, I remember to check my step count. 2000 steps is roughly a mile.

Saturday

we got to Hollywood Studios at the opening to try and finally get Sammi and Jason a ride on Slinky Dog Dash and, once again, same as when Julie and I tried it in April, the dang thing was down.

We hit up Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania hoping it would get up and running, but no luck.

we ended up in Nick's College Jersey, #55!

And Sammi beat me handily.

still no Slinky Dog Dash working, so we headed for Tower of Terror

we managed to get a photo of all three of us wearing the Haunted Mansion Muppet shirts Sammi made for us

and then we had lunch at Prime Time Cafe

Then time for MUPPETS!

And a Muppets Haunted Mansion Chocolate Eclair for good measure

it was heating up and the crowds were building, so we headed for a long break with naps involved

back to the Magic Kingdom for dinner and park fun until close at 10:00

First ride: Pirates

just as we got to the big drop, the first firework went off over our heads
That's what Sammi is watching.

Once we were off the ride, we managed to catch the last half of the fireworks over the Rivers of America, which was pretty magical since Sammi never gets an unrestricted view, which is why we didn't bother trying to find a spot on Main Street.

Next up: Haunted Mansion!

We made sure to stop in on Main Street before the PhotoPass photographers were done for the night

and the last land of the night was Tomorrowland. We rode People Mover, Astro Orbiter (for the first time ever!), and finally Space Mountain before the clock turned 10:00 and the park was closed.

on our way out I was very excited to see the new addition to the Electrical Water Pageant!

Sunday

Bill, Julie, Jason, and I spent a few last hours at the Magic Kingdom

til December!
