Autumn before the Snow

Our first snowfall of the season is set to come in overnight.

So this weekend, with its warm sunshine, might be the last of the golden and red leaves on the trees.

Just the wind Friday afternoon created a thicker carpet of gold than hours before

Saturday morning we set out ahead of the sun, waking up our dragon and snoopy as we left.

Before chasing the ball, we had to have some bunny stare down time:

these Ash trees are so spectacular in the fall. The outermost leaves turn red, but underneath is a canopy of green and gold, sort of glowing behind the red.

Playing in the leaves Saturday afternoon

Saturday evening's walk took us past some purple sage that the butterflies were crazy about. There had to be 100 that rose from the bushes and fluttered around us as we walked past before settling back down amid the purple.

I spotted the squirrel running around ground near the tree before Aidan did. But I started talking to him in squirrel chatter and Aidan immediately locked on to him as he scuttled up the tree to check us out.

a close up:

and it was WARM on the afternoon stroll!

One of my favorite Halloween yards is now up and running

And more leaf play, inside out of the wind this time.
