August 2022 Cabin Visit

Couple of days at the cabin on the new moon of the month in an attempt to get some astrophotography.

First night was a bust -- total cloud cover. Second night, didn't really clear enough until 3:00 a.m. and the clouds were still present, but I think some of them turned out alright, even if the Milky Way was almost gone below the horizon by that point.

The end of the monsoon seasonal rains is here, so hopefully in a month I can try again with some clearer skies (and maybe some turning aspen, too!)

First morning's sunrise was a beauty.

Lunchtime stroll with Dad

First afternoon during the rain, these stellar jays were roughing the weather for the bird feeders.

Evening guest trying to stay hidden. The second buck did an even better job!

The Saturday 3:00 a.m. results, sadly not coming across as bright as they are in Photoshop after uploading to Google.

with a million stars all around

Heading back to Denver

as I rounded the corner past Victor near the mining operation, there was a herd of elk running hard towards the overlook

I pulled into the overlook parking lot and pulled out the zoom camera, but right about then, I heard the gunshots, which spooked the herd into running back the other direction, some on the top side of the fence then darted across the road.

back to the road home business
