A week ago today, Steph and I set out on an all-day trip around the northern central portion of Colorado, heading up to Estes Park, through Rocky Mountain National Park by way of the old Fall Rivers Road up to Trail Ridge Road, over to Grand Lake, and back down through portions of both Roosevelt and Arapaho National Forests. We set out at 8:30 and got back home at 6:30.
along the road to Boulder
we stopped in at the Colorado Cherry Company outside of Estes Park
and got this Cherry Streusel Pie
stopping in at the Stanley Hotel for a quick look around.
The hedge maze is now 7 years old
we popped in for a light lunch at Casa Grande
The day had started out grey and chilly and wasn't showing any sign of clearing.
the further up we drove, the more we made our way INTO the cloud
finally, near the very top of the drive, we made it out and above that cloud shroud
Far across in the bowl near the streams was a nice sized herd of elk
Looking around the Alpine Visitor Center at nearly 12,000 ft. above sea level
Trail Ridge road heading toward Grand Lake
We even found a small stand of aspens already turning gold early
and then, as approached Winter Park, we found our cloud again,
and it stuck with us for the rest of the drive
