48 Hours of Steph & 3 Hours of Elton John

the clouds were rolling in early on Wednesday before the snow got started

Luckily, Steph was in on the earliest flight, so I picked her up, we stocked up on supplies (read: snacks) and spent the rest of the day hanging out on a Netflix binge while I worked

Once the snow gave us a little break, we went out and played with the boys

 By Thursday morning:

or take pictures

At lunch break Thursday Steph and I hit the dog park for some sunshine and snow

After work, we hit Los Dos for pre-Elton dinner

and then it was show time!

I snagged these tickets in the pre-sale for $50 more than a year ago hoping Steph could make it up to Denver to see the show with me and here it is, finally!

our cheap seats weren't bad!

He played my favorite, "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues" early in the show, mentioning it was one of his favorites, too!

during Candle in the Wind, the piano slowly made its way across the stage where Elton exited and returned in a new costume

at which point, the piano floated back over to our side again

the contrast on this one turned out funky -- it looks like Elton has disappeared

LATE in the show, this couple arrives on the far left corner in front of us and decides to stand the entire time. 200 people behind them found it very irritating, especially since the whole show was very chill -- rising to applaud and then resuming seats the rest of the time. Except for these two. Glad they came super late, anyway. In this shot with the confetti burst we were all on our feet.

confetti burst

but they just stayed up, in the way, even during "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"

in the encore (costume change again) he was in his EJ robe and sang both "Your Song" and GYBR

the piano crept back to the exit side

and the robe came off for him to make his exit up the stage and out the door in the same outfit used in the Farewell Concert banners

super late (for me anyway) ride on the light rail back home and we were giddy. It was a great concert. His voice is as strong as ever and still beautifully rendering the lyrics that I love while playing the absolute hell out of the keys. His band was amazing.

The temp in the car last night on the way home:

This morning, on our way out to the airport to get Steph back home we showed off our Denver Elton concert tees:

Hopefully, Steph makes it back in August for Billy Joel!!
