10/14 Rise & Scratch

Many mornings there isn't a cloud in the sky or a critter to be spotted.

Rare mornings where the sky lights up on fire and you nearly trip across a lounging and constantly scratching coyote on the soft green grass of a soccer field.

We'd wandered up to the field to catch the show that was clearly about to start in the sky.

I glanced to our left as we were meandering and had to squint at the gray lump ahead of us.

He was so concentrated on his itches, he didn't see us. And Jake and Aidan love rolling in the soft grass so much, they hadn't picked up his scent or sight either. So we retreated across the field a bit further away to watch the light and the scratching like a tennis match.

he finally sauntered away to the open space on the other side of the baseball field, right about the time Aidan realized what he'd just missed.
