Chapter 8: Back to the Coast and into Oregon

longest drive day!

We loaded up and left the Hobbit Hole early, hoping to find a donut place in Crescent City for the road. We not only struck out, ended up at Safeway, and discovered even THEY did not have any donuts. One cup of really awful coffee later, we were on the road, over the Oregon state line, and struck out at our first stop, the Natural Bridges Viewpoint because, OF COURSE, FOG.

There's a LOT of fog.

the ocean is out there somewhere.

However, the next stop more than made up for the strike outs all morning!

I had wandered over to the piles of driftwood

WHEN I SAW HIM

THERE'S AN ACTUAL OTTER AT OTTER POINT!

Marci, meanwhile, has no idea and when I wave at her and point, my otter immediately decides to hop into the ocean.

BYEEEEE

Patterson Bridge in Gold Beach, OR

We did an on-the-fly choice for lunch with turned out to be REALLY outside -- in the middle of the dock at Winchester Bay, at Griff's.

We had seagulls for company. To be fair, they were really cool seagulls and did not try to swoop down and take out lunch.

we ordered shrimp tacos but the fish was good enough we didn't bother fixing it

AND PIE!!!

More photos from the road

In Florence OR, in case you want to go to any other Florence

Thor's Well was our last stop before the beach cottage in Yachats

we were a little bummed that the walk to the beach from the cottage wasn't really a walkable shore.

So we drove around 2 minutes to play

this is what sand dollars look like when they're still inside.

Poor little guy

our feet are really pink because it was COLD!!

next morning, repacked and organized and ready to head for Portland
