9/11 Stair Climb Red Rocks 2021

It was a very warm one for the 20th Anniversary Red Rocks Stair Climb.

We managed 7 climbs, the equivalent of 84 stories up and back down. We've vowed to train harder next summer so we can complete all 9, for the 110 floors of the World Trade Center.

you can see we were super slow and took lots of breaks.
By the end, we had big portions of the stairs to ourselves!

Marci walked in honor of Frank Bonnano. I took Mike Bocchino with me.

Frank left behind a four year old son and a one year old daughter when the South Tower collapsed on 9/11. He was 42. That daughter just published a piece this month about him.

Mike lived and took care of his elderly parents in Brooklyn. He also kept a scrapbook of all the fires he'd been involved in and the people he'd been able to help. He was 45 and also died in the collapse of the South Tower. His firefighter brothers stepped in to help care for his parents after his death.

His name at the 9/11 Memorial

His tombstone in Brooklyn

a section of E. Third, the street where he grew up and was still living with his parents on 9/11
was renamed for him in 2019
