Return to the Dog Park

Today was the one month mark, at least in the 28 day/4 week cycle of Saturdays that I now mark at 3:30 every Saturday afternoon as the time Evan left me.

It started snowing last night and has not stopped.

At lunchtime today, we bundled up and, for the first time since my last walk with Evan on March 29, when I first saw something was wrong, I walked the route to the dog park, carrying Evan with me all the way.

you can't see him, but Evan is there with us.

There was another snow dog at the slushy park and so Aidan got his first taste of off-leash dog park fun in the snow.

I had considered sending a token of Evan's ashes from my locket into the breeze, but with the others there, I wasn't ready.

But Evan would have been so proud of Aidan. And so excited to be a part of the fun.

I so wish.

How I wish and ache for what can never be.

Aidan Week One Report

Monday: not bad. Keep finding things to get into that need to be put away. I'm running out of closet space.

Tuesday: terrible. He's disagreeable, doesn't want to follow any commands, and then starts having accidents around the house. Turns out, he's sick. Starts throwing up in the afternoon. Vet visit, meds after a 24 hour fast to keep things down.

Wednesday: on the mend. Really very well behaved. His puppyness returned by Wed. afternoon.

Thursday: Back to his mischevious self. Sweet on walks but SOOOO interested in bunnies darting this way and that. At home, responding well to commands, but still finding anything not his much more interesting than all the Aidan things strewn about the floor. So far this morning I have rescued papers, a feather (which he plucked from the book beside my bed), some plastic flowers, a wrapper from the trash, and some small stuffed things that were way back inside a cup in a shelf and put them away. And this is with him confined to my office and the loft.  Every other door now stays shut. Aidan's learning. And so am I.

Some photos Mon. - Thursday.
