2/3/18 Houston Visit, Part I: Frazier's in Hempstead

Back from a week in Houston, with a weekend roadtrip to Austin in the mix.

Fly in Friday night and managed all of two photos, over Houston at night and right before all the problems got started.

We pulled up to the jetway right on time, but the jetway had a mechanical problem, so it more than half an hour, with the possibility that we would have to be TOWED to another gate, and everyone who had gotten up and gotten their bags had to restow them and sit back down, just before they got it working and we could get off the plane.

The carousel with all our bags had already stopped by the time I got to baggage claim with everyone's luggage sitting still waiting on us.

The shuttle to the rental place took inordinately long -- every other rental shuttle came around twice before mine appeared.

There were six of us in line at the counter and ONE computer seemed to be working right to get people their cars.

So while I landed at 10:00 I didn't actually get to Steph's until after midnight and went promptly to bed.

The next morning, we got up and hit the road for a trip to Austin to see her daughter Maddie, who's at UT for her second semester, Marci & Ren, as well as Nick and Ali and Olive. We also had a stop planned in Navasota to see Leanne and a stop on the way back in to see Courtney.

First stop: Shipley's.

But first, a roadside interlude.

Coming off 290 at Hempstead to catch Highway 6 up to Navasota, Frazier's appears on your right at the exit.

You first spot these:

And along the fence line are a number of other creatures. And since we had some time to kill before meeting Leanne for lunch, we pulled in, mainly so I could get a picture of the big chicken. It's a thing

I also realized this is the only photo of my Hamster car rental (far left)

Little did we know we were about to enter the Mecca of Animal Statuary

The giant troll might've given us a hint.

Upon entering the building:

and from there, all manner of silliness broke loose...

up next: Navasota & Buccee's
