5/5/18 Saturday in Golden: Mountain Lux Candles

Amber and I had the most perfect weather for our Saturday outing in Golden today, around 70° and filled with a cool breeze, white fluffy clouds, and endless sunshine.

I had seen a post on the Word of Mouth Highlands Ranch page a few months ago by someone who had posted how much they enjoyed their experience at Mountain Lux Candles, at which point, I messaged Amber and said, "new adventure calling!"

They are tucked literally underneath the Golden welcome sign on the middle of Washington street.

You start out grabbing a clipboard and starting in on the wall of more than 80 scents, noting ones you really like. From left to right along the whole wall, A to Z, scents starting with Absinthe and ending with Yuzu (an Asian citrus).

From there, you select the container (which I neglected to get a good photo of), but you can see the wall along the right. There are a variety of options from 8 ounces to 16. The 8 oz. is 60 burning hours and were priced around $18, with the 16s coming in about $28.

Then you pull up a seat and get to narrowing down which scents go together best.

They pull the oil for you and teach you how to mix them, so you can add more of one than another if you prefer one note over another. Then they will fill up your selected container with their soy wax and you mix in the oils around the wick.

I'm making Dark Chocolate and Coffee!

Amber is mixing up Key Lime, Eucalyptus, and Grapefruit
.

They take it from there, and you have 90 minutes to enjoy Golden while your candle sets.

We also got the great tip that if you stop in at the Golden Visitor Center and ask for a golden ticket, you can cash in a discount at any of the stores or restaurants from 5% up to $500!

So off to the Visitor Center we went, which conveniently was right on the way to El Dorado, our choice for lunch.

even the tulips are hanging in there for another few weeks!

and onto lunch!

it was soooo good

And Amber's boys met up with us, since her hubby and Dad were setting off to their birthday present from her, driving some very nice cars (Jan's was a Porsche 911 turbo) through the canyon.

so we wandered back through town just in time to retrieve our candles and enjoy the day

the geode shop was awesome!

and right outside was this sweet ride
