Disney Graduation Trip Part 2: Friday Magic Kingdom & Animal Kingdom

After we'd gotten everything settled at the Lodge, we took the ferry over to the Contemporary and walked over to the Magic Kingdom

first up: a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle

It's pineapple soft serve and delicious.

However, as a big fan of the wall-eyed chicken Hei Hei from Moana, I had to try the Hei Hei Cone, which was pineapple and raspberry

everyone else went with the float

Our first ride we decided to wait for Splash Mountain

the castle moat is drained for construction work, which detracts a good bit from the view

We headed back to the Wilderness Lodge so Julie could get her car, go pick up Bill who was done with work, and meet back at Animal Kingdom for the night.

Ali and I both bought new Ears for the trip. Hers, Aladdin. Mine, UP.

For the 25th Anniversary of Lion King there was a big photo frame op. When I hailed everyone over, one of the Cast Members said, "Me? Ok"

Our first Fast Pass reservation was for Expedition Everest, so we headed into Asia to start.

After that, we went across the park to Pandora, the newest land, to grab a bite to eat and ride Flight of Passage, which we've only done once before. It's a really intense VR simulation of riding on the back of a banshee through some spectacular scenery of this alien land. It's very much the feeling of jumping off cliffs hang-gliding, except you are sitting on the back of a creature that is breathing and panting (you can feel this against your legs) and you are wearing VR 3-D glasses and swooping through adventures, including creatures out to eat you.

My avatar was #9, Ali is #10, Nick is #11, Bob is #12

Nick & Ali went over to Dinosaur Land to find Ali's nephew a present while we poked around the Tree of Life as the sun started to set. The entire trunk is an elaborately carved marvel, with well over 300 different animals.

Then we met back up with Nick & Ali and made our way over to the Rivers of Light night show that we've never seen before.

There are no fireworks, as there are animal habitats very close by, so it's primarily a water & light show. It's really got no story, though, and pretty repetitive soundtrack. It's pretty, but not something I'd want to catch on every trip.

Afterwards, we returned to Pandora to see it glowing at night. This was something we did not do on our first visit in 2017, as we'd started in the park in the morning and it's not a whole day park for us. Since we didn't arrive until late afternoon this time, here was my chance. These are the same areas as photographed above.

this is the walkway

even our hats were getting in on the blacklight action!

up next: Saturday at Epcot, where we catch up with Sam & crew for a hot minute
