Saltsman Photographs Albumen Mounted 1885 to 1920

This may be the oldest, if not second oldest, depending on the mystery of the L.F. family photograph's date. This is the one room schoolhouse in Alabama that John Saltsman attended. I believe, the way the note is written on the back, that he is only of the small boys on the front row, left, in bare feet. If so, the date should be around 1885.

John Frederick Saltsman, age 18, 1897

Laverne has written "Papa" on John here. He is in his early 20s working in the coal mine.
Love the pipe, the head lamps, and the lunch bucket!

1903 at a family reunion: Lessie back row far left, with John holding baby Pearson (my granddaddy) in his arms.

Toddler Laverne with big brother Pearson, circa 1909 in Alabama

John and Lessie Saltsman and children, circa 1920

Lessie's parents, Grandma and Grandpa Pearson, date unknown

the only surviving pictures of my great-great grandmothers are without their teeth

Mary, or as Laverne wrote it on the back "Papa's mama"
She died in 1923, at the age of 71, so this photograph is likely date around 1920.
I do love that she is sitting with a newspaper in her lap.
