I never, ever, ever get tired of this view, heading west on I-70.
We hit the Colorado Adventure Park to use my Groupon buy from more than a month ago, which was a two-for-one offer. They are just past Winter Park in Fraser, so it was about a 90 minute drive from the house.
The best part is that the hill has a conveyor belt pulling you up to the top of the very tall hill so that you can speed to the bottom and return without suffering cardiac arrest.
And yes, it was "black diamond" tubing day.
Sam's face says it all.
So, we get the bright idea to film one of the runs. All seems to go well, until in the movement of push off, the zoom button gets activated without anyone's knowledge. What you get is mostly a stylized Blair Witch kind of feel with Samantha screaming "Serenity now!!" at one point.
Beautiful day
Beautiful conveyor belt.
Yes, we still had cell phone service.
On our last run, Sam and Bob stayed at the bottom while Nick and I went one more time. Nick started rotating really early and never recovered, so all you had were feet coming at you the whole way down. I, however, exhibit the grace and balance of someone who should do this professionally.
At the base was a huge fire pit to warm yourself by. (Our offer also included hot chocolate.)
On the way out, we had to stop and get a picture with the Penguin directing people away from the fork in the road that would lead them to a competitor. The best part was, when he was asked if it was okay to take a picture with him, the very surfer reply was "Totally, duuuuude."
Right at the base of the turn off is the Mexican food restaurant that their website suggested. Good suggestion.
Nick will be turning 20 in three days!! And then he's back to Texas on Thursday, so this was a nice way to spend the last weekend together. That little bowl in front of us was the most delicious, freshest twist on pico de gallo I've ever eaten. It was a slaw/cabbage base with jalapenos, lime, cilantro, and tomatoes. I ate two bowls. So yummy.
And their bathroom sink! Must have.
The patio did not appear to be open for dining today. Only the icicles were hanging around outside.
Sigh. Just too pretty for words.
