Last night Mom and Dad came to visit and take Nick out for his birthday. Of course, this required waiting until the Bronco's game was over, so Sammi and I were quite crabby when the Steelers managed to tie things up and take them into overtime. Tim Tebow and Damarius Thomas, thank you for ending overtime in under a minute so we could go eat. Apologies to the neighbors within a three mile radius for the screaming and yelling and dogs barking that occurred at that point, although most of you were joining in. So off to dinner we went to Mimi's Cafe, and Nick's amazing bread pudding for dessert.
This morning's full moon was wonderful.
I took these from the back deck, but once it gets to a certain point, the only vantage point is....
Nick's room.
I poked my head in his room to see, and was met by a voice, "What are you doing?"
This I took as complete permission to get over to the window, since he was obviously awake.
"Looking at the moon."
"Mom, seriously? It's my birthday!"
"Exactly! It's your birthday moon. And when I'm dead (yes, I actually said this) you will look up at the moon and smile and remember me."
Because what else is your first born's birthday good for if you don't get to remind it was actually YOU who were doing the work with blood, sweat, and tears, to make this HIS birthday?
So after we watched the moon disappear behind the mountains, it was chocolate chip birthday pancakes for breakfast. He'd already put away one or two before I thought to break out the candles. And then the candles fell over and got soaked in syrup and we wondered if we couldn't create a pancake flambé.
Then it was Sammi to school and Mr. Bunbun carrots
Devil-eyed Mr. bunbun
Awww...very touching...and I'm not just talking about the full moon pics. :)
