Slobber Ball

Good morning! We turned the air conditioner on for the first time yesterday afternoon, after attempts to close up and darken the house after 10:00 a.m. still didn't keep it from climbing into the 80s inside. The up-side is that we don't have to run it full time, as opening the windows at night and through the morning keeps it a very comfortable 75 or below inside. Even so, you can tell the tide has shifted as eating breakfast on the deck no longer calls for a sweater.

Some things, however, never change. I will be happily eating my cheerios and staring off at the mountains and clouds and I hear a snort under my feet. This ball, unlike the much loved blue POS, has held together but is completely bald. This does make it bounce well, so perhaps that's why the dogs keep finding it and bringing it to me.

How could you not just spend the whole morning pleasing those sweet faces?

But here's the thing about bald ball: it's slobberific. They chew on it and turn it over and over in their mouth before bringing it back, so we're talking dripping saliva.

Check out the sparkling ooze between my thumb and ball, if the shining orb doesn't do it.

Evan especially will hang on to it for a minute, making sure it's good and slobbery. Katy waits impatiently before he steps back and let's her bring it back.

Which, of course, means it hits the grass before Katy picks it up and adds some additional slobber to it before presenting it to me.

But honestly, slobber is well worth these faces in the morning.
