12-20-11 Christmas Song(s) of the Day #20: O Holy Night

Le monde entier tressaille d'espérance: The world entire trembles with hope.
I love this line.

Ok, so A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
This carol was the second piece of music ever played on the radio on the first station (AM) on Christmas Eve, 1906. (A Handel aria preceded it.)

This is one of those I love to sing but with crazy vocal range, I end up dropping out on the high notes to avoid screeching. Sadly, more people should heed this advice. Of course, some artists have tried to pitch it lower and end up sounding like they've contracted laryngitis at the start of the song. (Tracy Chapman, I'm thinking about you.)

10 years old with 2 years of training. Mon Dieu.

Beautiful duet

Charlotte Church just stuns on those effortless high notes.

never heard of Kerrie? Give this a try.

nice gospel version from Jennifer here

the lovely baritone of Robert Merrill

and the not so baritone, for Sammi, who loves this Nick more than her brother
