12-25-11 Christmas Song(s) of the Day #25, the final and last: The Christmas Song

10 lovely versions for you

Merry Christmas!

Judy doesn't get all of the words right, but it's such a pretty duet. Mel wrote the song as a teenager, after seeing the words Bob Wells had scratched out to try and get in a cooler state of mind in the midst of a sweltering summer in 1944. He recorded the song numerous times.

But the definitive sound is Nat King Cole's. His 1946 version with strings was topped by his full stereophonic orchestration in 1961. I love both.
